KINDERGARTEN:
A child must be 5 by September 30th to enter Kindergarten. The low student to teacher ratio (with no more than 10 to 12 students in each class) provides an excellent learning environment and affords each student individual attention. Students are taught to read using the Lippincott "Beginning to Read, Write, and Listen" series. This program is phonics based and includes the following learning activities:
The reading program is supplemented by the use of sight words. Numbers and their values are taught, as well as addition and subtraction. Kindergarten students learn to follow oral directions, listen attentively, complete tasks, and share experiences and ideas. Other concepts stressed are:

Nature Club is a
program in which the all children participate. This class provides
children with an educational science lesson that includes "hands
on" experience utilizing items found in nature to create a take-home
project.
Children also attend classes in physical education, art, music, and dance (creative movement). These classes are taught by professionals who specialize in these fields. Westhampton offers a well rounded accelerated program.
